Welcome to the homepage of the  Archipelago Research Institute

The island of Seili is located in the town of Väståboland, some 20 minutes (7 km) ferry trip to the north-east from the village of Nauvo.

Archipelago Research Institute was established in 1964 as an all-year field research station for the University of Turku. Since then, the research station is focused the multidisciplinary environmental research of the Archipelago Sea, and the Baltic, as well. The main task of the research station is on the long term monitoring of the sea environment.

In addition to institute’s own education, it serves the university by offering resources for field courses, seminars, doctoral schools, workshops, conferences, etc. Moreover, institute’s infrastructure is commonly utilised by researchers and university students of most Finnish universities.
